Sighting Description: Ducks flying south low over the water off Clinton Beach. Many
skeins of waterfowl adding up to hundreds of birds flew just off shore and across the
bay. This parade lasted for perhaps an hour. This is the most dense grouping of
migrating ducks that I have seen on Whidbey.
Location: Along the east side of Whidbey Island near Clinton Beach.

Sighting Description: Hundreds of Snow geese at the Deer Lagoon estuary this morning.
Not rare, but the first I have seen this season.
Location: Visible from the south end of Deer Lagoon Road and from Double Bluff Road.

Sighting Description: A flock of 10 band-tailed pigeons alighted at the top of a fir
tree near our house and proceeded to preen. We occasionally see 2 or 3 at our feeder
but never this many.

Sighting Description: I saw one Red-breasted Sapsucker at 10:30am Oct 10, 2020 making
a row of holes in Birch tree along the parking lot of the Island Athletic Club in
Freeland, WA. It was in the process of making its line of drilled holes, During 20
minutes the row expanded from two to four evenly spaced holes. The bird was about
five feet from ground.I took a photo with my Iphone from about 6 feet.

Sighting Description: A California Scrub Jay came to my feeder twice today on Spencer
Ln in Clinton. I had several make daily visits a few years back. I continue to
suspect they have been present on Whidbey Island continually for a few years - just
under-reported. I saw fledglings a while back on Humphrey Rd.

Sighting Description: Some 40 Turkey Vultures flying to or roosting on the drift wood
opposite the east end of Crockett Lake.

Sighting Description: One of seven Marbled Godwits seen yesterday and today. Species
also present at one time or the other were Black-bellied Plover, Dunlin, Long-billed
Dowitcher, Willet, Black Turnstone, Ruddy Turnstone, Western Sandpiper, and Wilson's
Snipe.
Location: North end of Boas Lake, Swantown.
Date and time: October 8, 2020 at about 5 P.M. and October 9 at about 9:30 A.M.
